The new equipment features enhanced performance and productivity.
SUWANEE, Ga. – Doosan Infracore North America introduces the new DX42-5K and the DX50-5K mini excavators. The excavators are updates to the prior iterations, featuring new innovations to increase machine performance, versatility, operator comfort and reliability.
These models in the 4- to 5-metric-ton size class serve customers in various industries. The excavators’ compact size and mobility make them valuable for commercial and residential developments and landscape projects. In addition, the machines’ versatility makes them ideal for utility companies that perform underground construction tasks.
Performance A new dual-flange track roller system works in tandem with an enhanced counterweight for better over-the-side digging and lifting capabilities. An integrated lift eye allows for easier craning and lifting. Operators now have the option to remove the bucket when lifting to maximize capacity with the new secure lifting point. The new DX42-5K and DX50-5K excavators have a 3-cylinder Doosan diesel engine that is more fuel-efficient. Four new tie-downs — for a total of six — provide extra security during transport. For additional dig depth and reach, a long-arm option is available for the DX42-5K and DX50-5K.
Versatility The dozer blade’s top edge features a more durable design for added strength. The blade and frame are also designed with an angled top and rounded edges to keep material from building up on the blade and improve debris shedding. An angle blade remains an option for both models.
Easy-to-reach auxiliary hydraulic couplers are now located on the mini excavator’s arm. The repositioned couplers help reduce the time needed for operators to connect the hydraulic hoses. In addition, a new clamp diverter valve option allows operators to quickly connect another attachment without disconnecting the hydraulic clamp hoses.
Comfort The mini excavators are standard from the factory with an enclosed, air-conditioned cab. Taller and wider windows offer better visibility, and foldable pedals offer more operator foot room. The ergonomic design also includes wider seats, responsive joystick controls and new joystick buttons to provide additional hands-on control functions. An optional canopy is available for customers who prefer an open operating station.
Operators can monitor and troubleshoot with additional easily available data on the 5-inch display panel. These models are available with an optional integrated rearview camera for enhanced all-around visibility.
Durability The new Doosan DX42-5K and DX50-5K mini excavators are designed with modifications to improve machine durability. For example, the mini excavator’s panels come together for a tighter and better fit.
The new DX42-5K and DX50-5K excavators are part of a family of mini excavators. Doosan offers six models in its mini excavator lineup — from the DX35-5 to the DX85R-3 — to serve customers with a variety of size classes and machine capabilities. The six Doosan mini excavators complement the company’s larger crawler excavator models, offering a full line of excavating equipment.
Approved attachments The following attachments are approved for use with the Doosan DX42-5K and DX50-5K mini excavators. Customers can bundle a quick coupler, bucket and clamp in an attachment package.
The report details the impact of COVID-19 on outdoor service companies.
ATLANTA – SingleOps has released its quarterly report tracking the health of the green industry. A key takeaway from SingleOps’ Q1/Q2 2020 Green Industry Economic Report is that outdoor service companies, including tree care and landscape specialists, have weathered the pandemic fairly well so far, despite some volatility along the way.
The SingleOps Green Industry Economic Report includes data from hundreds of thousands of one-off commercial and residential jobs performed by outdoor service companies in North America using the SingleOps platform between January and June 2020. Examples of one-off projects in the SingleOps system include the removal of a fallen tree, a storm clean-up, a flower bed installation or construction of a retaining wall.
For the first six months of 2020, 56% of one-off tree care and landscaping jobs totaling over $256 million were accepted* by outdoor service companies using SingleOps’ system. The proposal acceptance rate was 45% for tree care companies and 66% for landscapers. Digging deeper, the tree care acceptance rate was 52% in January before plummeting to 32% in February, only to rebound to 54% in March and 53% in April; the months of May (50%) and June (48%) weren’t as strong. Among landscaping companies, January’s acceptance rate was 63%, February jumped to 70%, and March (72%) and April (71%) were stable, to 70% in May and 68% in June.
Meanwhile, the average price of a one-off tree care job in the SingleOps system was $2,235 in January and rose to $2,565 in February. It has slipped a bit since: the average tree care job was $1,746 in June. On the landscape side, the average job size was $5,784 in January, dipping to $4,122 in February and $3,942 in March before bottoming out in April at $2,276. The numbers have gone up since, with June coming in at $3,276.
“Over six months have passed since we published our first Green Industry Economic Report, and despite all the chaos wrought by COVID, our industry has proven resilient,” said Sean McCormick, CEO of SingleOps. “With people now spending more time than ever in their yards, home improvement projects are popping up everywhere. While we understand that tough times may yet lie ahead, we remain confident that the green industry will weather the storm and pull through stronger than ever.”

* By “accepted,” the company is referring to work proposed by a service provider and accepted by a service provider’s customer.
The debut includes new 2-stage and single stage snowblowers.
Clearing driveways and sidewalks in the winter can be a dreadful chore.
EGO, a line of battery-powered OPE, has taken its game up a notch with the introduction of a 2-stage battery-powered snowblower and an improved version of the single stage.
The 2-stage model # SNT2400 is designed for people who want to move a lot of snow or who are plagued with snowplow piles at the end of the driveway. It’s 24-inch wide, thick gauge steel box, with its aggressive steel augurs and retractable drift cutters, chews through the frozen stuff, and delivers it to the steel impeller that flings the snow up to 50 feet. A difference of note between the EGO and all other gas-powered snowblowers is that the augur and impeller work off one high-efficiency brushless motor while the drive mechanism works off its own high-efficiency brushless motor. This means no belts to break, no oil or gas to spill, little noise and no fumes.
Traction is assured on all manner of surfaces with 15”x 3.5” wheels and a limited-slip differential that allows the machine to make turns effortlessly. EGO has also paid attention to the user interface. Dexterity with big winter gloves is not a given, so all the controls are designed to be easy to use while delivering maximum efficiency.
To engage the drive, operators squeeze the handle grips. Once in gear, users can let go of either the left
or the right handle which will then allow them to work the other controls with their free hand. In forward, operators can adjust the speed from .9-2.7mph. The reverse speed is .9 mph. Each increment is defined with a click of a detente.
Directing the snow is achieved with a sure-handed push of a joystick across a 200 degree
Arc, and operators can put the snow exactly where they want it with another lever that raises or lowers
the chute cowling. A bank of LED headlights, high and low on the machine, allows users to see
what they’re doing no matter the conditions or time of day.
With two 7.5 ah ARC Lithium batteries, users can clear an eight-car driveway with 14” of medium density snow. It’s also available with two 10ah batteries that will give you 25% more run time; ideal for very long driveways that hold 10 or more cars or for users who take care of multiple properties. Included in the kit is another EGO innovation, the first-ever Duo charger that charges two batteries. Because EGO
Snowblowers run off of two batteries simultaneously, they deliver Peak Power; allowing users to operate under high amp draw conditions, enabling the snowblower to gobble up and spit out the heaviest snow.
Additionally, the refinement of the original EGO single-stage snowblower; features the same brushless motor, same one-button start, same 21” clearing width and same easily directed chute. But, instead of
hard rubber paddles that fling the snow up and out of the chute 35 feet, the new blower, model
#SNT2110, has steel augurs that chew through the snow and end of driveway crud to send the snow flying up to 40 feet. Even more efficient than it’s predecessor, it will clear a 17-car driveway of up to 8” of medium density snow on a single charge.
All of EGO’s 50+ tools run off any one of EGO’s batteries. All tools come with a five-year warranty
and a three-year warranty of the battery.
The Mid-Atlantic Nursery Trade Show was initially scheduled for January 6-8, 2021.
BALTIMORE – Due to COVID-19 concerns, ongoing restrictions on large indoor gatherings, and unforeseen unavailability at the Baltimore Convention Center, The Mid-Atlantic Nursery Trade Show announced the 2021 show, initially scheduled for January 6-8, is unable to take place as an in-person event.
MANTS organizers are instead working to provide an online platform where exhibitors and attendees can conduct business.
Organizers had been optimistic about the possibility of continuing the 50-year tradition of MANTS in January 2021 but recently confirmed that the Baltimore Convention Center is not available for the scheduled dates due to its ongoing role as a State of Maryland field hospital. The Baltimore Convention Center has served as a 250-bed COVID-19 field hospital since April and will continue to serve in that capacity through the end of December. When factoring in additional time required to break down the field hospital and sanitize, it proved impractical to assume proper access to the building even if the state should change its restrictions on large-scale indoor gatherings.
“The health and safety of our exhibitors and attendees is our primary focus,” said MANTS Executive Vice President Vanessa Finney. “We’ve exhausted all other alternative dates for an in-person show, and while we are disappointed that we can’t meet in person, we are committed to keeping commerce within our industry alive and healthy. MANTS’ continued support of our show sponsors, the State Nursery and Landscape Associations of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia is critical despite the pandemic.”
“MANTS has meant business for the green industry for 50 years, and we plan to continue this tradition into 2021,” Finney added. “We have long said that MANTS means business, and that has traditionally meant in-person and face-to-face, but over the next few weeks, we are working on an alternate way to keep that business relationship between exhibitor and buyer healthy and available through 2021.”
In 2020, MANTS welcomed over 12,000 total registrants (including exhibitors) to do business, network, and learn about the latest green industry trends generating an economic impact of $5.6 million for Baltimore. In addition to the increased registration in 2020, business thrived at the premier green industry marketplace, with more than 88% of MANTS attendees designated as the representatives in their companies that make or influence final purchasing decisions.
Additional details on MANTS 2021 plans will be shared in the weeks to come.
BerryBux is a blueberry plant with Buxus-like performance and appeal.
WEST GROVE, Pa. — Bushel and Berry, the collection of homegrown berries from Star Roses and Plants, is introducing its newest blueberry variety for 2021, BerryBux. BerryBux is an ornamental blueberry plant with Buxus-like performance and appeal in the landscape market. Its foliage and compact habit, which are similar to boxwood, make it ideal for hedges and mass plantings.
“We know that boxwood has posed certain challenges in the landscape, so this is a great alternative with ornamental appeal and the bonus of blueberries,” said Layci Gragnani, Bushel and Berry program manager.
BerryBux grows to a height of 2-3’ and works best in zones 5-8. The berries on BerryBux are small in size but have a wild, aromatic flavor.
